Honor has officially announced the Honor Watch GS 5, its next-generation smartwatch focused heavily on health monitoring, especially heart-related insights. Pre-orders for the new wearable are set to open in China on January 19, signaling Honor’s intent to strengthen its presence in the premium smartwatch segment. While the Watch GS 5 retains the familiar round design of the GS series, it introduces meaningful refinements in comfort, battery endurance, and health intelligence, making it more than just a routine upgrade.
The Honor Watch GS 5 continues with the classic round dial that has become a signature of the GS lineup, but this time in a slimmer and lighter form. According to Honor, the watch measures just 9.9mm in thickness and weighs only 26 grams. This reduced profile should make the GS 5 noticeably more comfortable for all-day wear, including during sleep tracking and extended workouts.
The lighter body also suggests better long-term usability, especially for users who prefer wearing their smartwatch continuously rather than taking it off between activities.
Battery life is one of the strongest highlights of the Honor Watch GS 5. Honor claims up to 23 days of battery life in Bluetooth mode, placing it among the longest-lasting smartwatches in its category. This extended endurance makes the GS 5 particularly appealing to users who want reliable health and activity tracking without the hassle of frequent charging.
For users transitioning from traditional watches or fitness bands, this level of battery performance helps bridge the gap between smart functionality and everyday convenience.
Heart health is clearly the core focus of the Honor Watch GS 5. The smartwatch introduces a sudden cardiac arrest screening feature, which Honor describes as an industry-first. This function analyzes heart rhythm data and related physiological signals to identify potential risks and notify users early.
Alongside this, the watch includes a cardiovascular risk assessment tool that evaluates broader heart health trends over time. By monitoring long-term patterns, the system can issue early alerts when unusual changes are detected. Honor emphasizes that these tools are designed to support health awareness and early detection rather than replace professional medical diagnosis.
Beyond advanced heart-focused tools, the Watch GS 5 includes a full suite of standard health tracking features. These include continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking, stress monitoring, and detailed sleep analysis. While Honor has not yet revealed full details about the sensor hardware, it is expected to build on the multi-channel sensor technology used in previous GS models.
Together, these features position the GS 5 as a well-rounded health companion rather than just a basic fitness tracker.
The Honor Watch GS 5 also integrates practical smart features aimed at everyday convenience. Users can receive smart reminders related to flights, high-speed trains, and taxi bookings, making the watch useful beyond fitness and health monitoring. These additions suggest Honor is targeting users who want a balance between lifestyle functionality and health insights.
Although Honor has not officially confirmed display specifications, the design language strongly suggests continuity with earlier GS models. Previous versions, such as the Watch GS 4, featured a 1.43-inch AMOLED display, and it is expected that the GS 5 will retain a similar screen size and visual quality. If confirmed, this would ensure vibrant visuals and good outdoor readability.
Honor has not announced pricing for the Watch GS 5 yet. For reference, the Honor Watch GS 4 launched in March 2024 with a starting price of 949 yuan. Given the added health-focused features and longer battery life, the GS 5 is expected to fall within a similar price range, potentially with a slight premium depending on variants.
The Honor Watch GS 5 appears to be a thoughtful evolution of the GS series, with a clear emphasis on heart health, comfort, and battery longevity. Its slim design, lightweight build, and up to 23-day battery life make it practical for everyday use, while the new heart risk screening and cardiovascular assessment tools add meaningful value for health-conscious users. While full hardware details and pricing are still awaited, the Watch GS 5 looks well-positioned for users who want deeper health insights without sacrificing battery life or wearability.
