The 7-inch IPS LCD screen on the ROG Ally features FHD resolution, a 16:9 aspect ratio, and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel's maximum brightness is 500 nits, and Gorilla Glass Victus shields it from damage. 7ms response time and complete sRGB colour space coverage, according to Asus.

The new AMD Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme chipsets are available with two variants of the ROG Ally motherboard. The Z1 has a six-core Zen 4 CPU with twelve threads, while four RDNA 3 cores handle the GPU side. Twelve RDNA 3 GPU cores with 24MB cache and an eight-core Zen 4 CPU with sixteen threads are both included in the Z1 Extreme.

The console supports external GPUs up to ROG XG Mobile, which has a GeForce RTX 4090 Laptop GPU, if you require even more power.

ROG Ally is 608 grammes in weight and has an aluminium chassis. The actual size of the item is 280 x 111 x 21.2mm. With an upgraded version of Asus Armoury Crate installed on top, it runs full-featured Windows 11 Home. With each ROG Ally purchase, you receive a three-month trial of Xbox Game Pass and are allowed to use it. You can also use any other significant game launcher or game streaming provider to run games.

Both ROG Ally variants come equipped with 256/512GB PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs and 16GB LPDDR5 dual-channel RAM. Also included is a 40Wh battery pack. Asus states that playing demanding video games in the 15W performance mode will provide you up to two hours of playtime. To aid with cooling, Asus fitted two fans and a copper heat pipe. The gaming console includes a 65W PD charger.

Two assignable grip buttons are located on the rear of the ROG Ally, along with two analogue thumb sticks with capacitive touch and RGB lighting, a D-pad, ABXY buttons, left and right Hall Effect triggers, and bumpers. The command centre and view buttons are on the left side of the screen, and the menu and Armoury Crate buttons are on the right. Six-axis gyro support was also introduced by Asus.

A Type-C combination port that supports USB 3.2 Gen2 is provided as well as a connector for attaching external GPUs, a microSD card slot that can accommodate cards up to UHS-II, and a headphone/mic combo jack. 

Additionally, the console has dual-firing stereo speakers that enable Dolby Atmos and Hi-Res Audio. Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity are provided by ROG Ally.
