“Airport pickup” can mean three different things at Muscat International Airport. The company may have a desk in the arrivals hall, send a representative to meet the passenger or provide transport to an office outside the terminal.
Each arrangement works, but the booking needs to identify which one applies. A confirmation that gives only the airport name leaves an avoidable question for the arrivals hall.
The useful details are the representative's number, the meeting point, the parking area and the procedure for a delayed flight. Save all four before departure.
| Collection type | Where to go | Detail that matters |
| Terminal desk | Public arrivals hall | Desk name and booking reference |
| Meet and greet | Prearranged point in or near arrivals | Representative's name and telephone number |
| Off-airport office | Shuttle meeting point | Transfer frequency and operating hours |
Muscat Airport's on-site rental offices are located in the arrivals area. Vehicles operated through the airport facility are generally collected from P2 on Level 0. A local provider using meet-and-greet delivery may give different instructions.
Follow the booking confirmation rather than assuming that every company uses the same counter or parking bay.
Scheduled arrival time cannot show whether the aircraft is early, delayed or diverted. A flight number allows the provider to follow its actual progress.
This is particularly important for flights landing after midnight. A collection entered as 12:30 a.m. on the wrong date creates a full day's difference. Check the calendar date displayed beside the time before confirming the reservation.
Do not use the scheduled landing time as the collection time. Immigration, baggage reclaim and customs take place first. The provider should know the flight number and wait according to the agreed arrival procedure.
Airport Wi-Fi is available, but the handover should not depend on opening an email after landing. Take screenshots of:
Keep the number in international format beginning with Oman’s country code, +968. If communication takes place through a messaging application, save the contact before the flight.
Royal Oman Police permits visitors to drive with a licence issued in their home country during a short visit of up to three months.
The rental provider and insurer may have additional requirements based on the issuing country, licence language or vehicle category. An International Driving Permit may therefore still be requested. It must be carried with the original licence.
Send a copy to the provider in advance if the licence is not printed in English or Arabic. Resolving eligibility before travel is easier than discussing document interpretation at the counter.
Every person who may drive should appear on the agreement. Giving the wheel to an unregistered driver can invalidate insurance coverage.
The amount shown during a search may not explain the complete financial arrangement. Separate:
A no-deposit offer can still have an excess. A no-credit-card offer may accept a debit card, cash or both, depending on the individual supplier.
When comparing vehicles through RentGo Muscat, read the payment method, deposit, mileage, excess and pickup arrangement attached to the selected car. Flexible conditions apply only to the listings on which they are stated.
A compact automatic or saloon is suitable for Muscat and the main paved routes to Nizwa and Sur. A larger vehicle may provide more luggage space, but normal highway distance does not require four-wheel drive.
Jabal Akhdar is different: a genuine 4WD is required for the ascent. An SUV-shaped crossover may still be two-wheel drive, so confirm the drivetrain rather than relying on the category name.
Off-road tracks, wadis and dunes raise a separate contractual question. A capable vehicle cannot be taken onto an excluded surface without risking the loss of insurance coverage.
Covered airport parking protects the car from direct sun but can make scratches harder to see. Walk around the vehicle before loading the luggage and use the phone's flash where the light is weak.

Existing damage should appear on the collection form. A verbal acknowledgement is difficult to verify after the car has been returned.
Start the engine and switch on the air-conditioning before the inspection begins. By the time the paperwork is complete, it should be clear whether the system cools the cabin properly.
Wait for dashboard warning lights to switch off. Locate the fuel release, hazard lights, parking brake and spare wheel or repair kit. Ask which fuel grade the vehicle uses.
If the route includes mountain roads, identify the automatic gearbox's manual or low-gear mode before leaving the airport.
Enter the hotel address, mount the phone and connect its charging cable while the car is still parked. The road leaving the airport quickly joins Muscat's multi-lane network, where adjusting navigation becomes an unnecessary distraction.
Save the hotel's vehicle entrance rather than only its reception address. Large properties can have separate access points for self-parking, valet service and taxis.
Traffic keeps to the right. If an exit is missed, continue until the navigation recalculates. A longer correction is preferable to crossing several lanes late.
Collecting the car after landing makes sense when the first hotel is outside Muscat or driving begins immediately.
It can be wasteful when the opening days are spent inside a resort, at a conference or on organised tours. An airport transfer followed by hotel delivery may remove several unused rental days.
Compare the delivery charge with the extra rental period and hotel parking fees. Also establish whether the provider will collect the car from the hotel at the end or expects it to be returned to the airport.
On-airport rental vehicles are normally returned to the designated area in P2 on Level 0. Search for the precise rental return entrance rather than using the airport terminal as the only navigation destination.
A local provider may arrange a different return point or meet the driver elsewhere. Confirm the procedure the day before departure, particularly for an early-morning flight.
The kerb outside the terminal is not suitable for rental paperwork or an inspection. Muscat Airport allows only a short stop in its pickup and drop-off area and directs longer stays to parking.
Muscat Airport advises departing passengers to arrive three hours before their flight. Refuelling, locating P2 and completing the vehicle inspection should happen before that three-hour airport period begins.
Under a full-to-full policy, refill the tank close enough to the airport for the gauge to remain full. Keep the receipt and photograph the mileage, fuel level, exterior and final parking position.
If keys are left in a drop box, retain evidence of the agreed return time and location. Keep the rental agreement and photographs until any deposit has been released and the provider confirms that the contract is closed.
Muscat International Airport has a clear rental area. Delays usually come from an unspecified meeting point, a missing flight number, an unverified licence or a return destination saved too late.
Resolve those four details before flying. At collection, inspect the car before leaving P2. At return, finish the rental procedure before joining the departure queue. That is the difference between an airport rental that saves time and one that merely moves the waiting elsewhere.
