Paris is probably one of the first places that comes to mind when you think about a romantic holiday. There is something about the city that makes even a normal evening feel a little different. Maybe it is sitting outside a small café, walking beside the river or seeing the Eiffel Tower from a distance while returning to your hotel.
You do not really need a perfect plan for Paris. In fact, trying to see everything can take away some of the fun. Pick a few places you really want to visit, then leave some time to walk around and see what you find.
For couples, this works particularly well because the city gives you plenty of chances to spend time together without having to turn every moment into a tourist activity.
Yes, it is crowded. Yes, almost every tourist goes there. Still, I would not skip the Eiffel Tower just because it is popular.
There is a different feeling when you see it standing in front of you rather than on a screen. Take some time around the area instead of just taking two photographs and leaving.
If you are staying in Paris for a few days, consider visiting once during daylight and seeing it again at night. The view changes completely after sunset.
You can walk around Champ de Mars, sit for a while or head towards the Seine. The area gives you plenty of opportunities for photographs too.
One of my favourite things about visiting a city like Paris would be not having somewhere to be for a little while.
The Seine is a good place for that.
Take a walk with your partner and do not worry too much about the route. You will come across bridges, old buildings, boats and plenty of people enjoying the evening.
If walking is not your thing, a river cruise is another option. It gives you a chance to see several parts of the city while sitting down. An evening cruise can be especially nice when the lights begin coming on across Paris.
And if you find a good spot beside the river, just stay there for a while. There is no rule saying you need to keep moving.
Montmartre feels quite different from the large streets around some of the main attractions. It has narrow roads, small cafes, little shops and plenty of old buildings.
The Sacré-Cœur Basilica is the obvious place to visit. The view from the hill is also worth the climb.
But do not make your visit only about the basilica.
Walk around the surrounding streets. Stop if something catches your attention. Have a coffee. Look at the shops. Take a few photographs.
This is also a good part of Paris for couples who want pictures that do not look like standard tourist photographs.
Your phone will probably take hundreds of photographs during the trip anyway. Still, there is a difference between random holiday pictures and photographs where someone has actually taken time to capture the two of you.
If you want that, booking a Paris Photographer is something you could consider.
It does not have to become a formal photoshoot. You can simply walk through the streets while the photographer takes pictures. Some photographers also know quieter locations, which can be useful if you do not want every photograph filled with tourists.
For an anniversary or honeymoon, this can be particularly nice. You are not just bringing home photographs of the Eiffel Tower. You are bringing home photographs of yourselves enjoying the trip.
Before booking a Paris Photographer, look through their previous work. Some photographers have a very posed style, while others focus more on natural moments. Pick a style that feels comfortable to you.
Do not make the mistake of treating cafes as just places to grab food quickly.
Give yourself an hour.
Find somewhere that looks inviting, order coffee and a pastry, then sit outside if the weather is good. Watch the street for a while. Talk about what you want to do next.
You do not need to find the café with the most reviews online. A small place near where you are staying can turn out to be one of the nicest stops of the day.
And honestly, you will probably need the break after walking around Paris for several hours.
A picnic is another simple idea if you want to spend a relaxed afternoon together.
Visit a bakery or local food shop and pick up a few things. Bread, cheese, fruit, pastries and drinks are enough. You do not need to prepare anything complicated.
The Luxembourg Gardens are one option, although you can look for other suitable parks depending on where you are staying.
The best part is that there is no schedule. Eat when you want, talk, take photographs or just sit there.
If you only explore Paris during the daytime, you are missing a completely different side of the city.
After dark, many buildings are lit up. Restaurants get busier. The streets have a different atmosphere.
Go for an evening walk after dinner. You could walk around Saint-Germain-des-Prés or head towards the Seine.
The Eiffel Tower is also worth seeing at night. Find a good viewpoint, wait for the lights and enjoy it instead of immediately checking your phone for the perfect picture.
This is probably the most useful advice for a couple visiting Paris.
Do not plan every minute.
There are too many things to see, so it is easy to create a schedule that looks good on paper but becomes exhausting in reality.
Maybe choose two or three main places for a day. Everything else can happen naturally.
If you see a bakery you like, go inside. If you find a nice street, walk through it. If you are tired, sit down.
You are on holiday. There is no prize for visiting the most attractions.
Also, wear comfortable shoes. You will probably walk much more than you expect.
If you are visiting popular attractions, check whether tickets need to be booked beforehand. It can save a lot of time, especially during busy periods.
There is nothing wrong with taking the classic Eiffel Tower photograph. You should definitely take one.
But try to capture the smaller parts of the holiday too.
A Paris Photographer can help with this if you want something more natural. Instead of standing in one place and looking at the camera, you might walk along a street, cross a bridge or stop outside a café.
Those photographs often tell more of a story.
If you are visiting for an engagement, honeymoon or anniversary, tell the photographer what you want from the session. You might prefer candid photographs rather than heavily posed ones.
A good photography session should not make you feel like you are working. It should still feel like part of your holiday.
There will be days when your plans work perfectly. There will also be days when you change them completely.
That is normal in Paris.
You may start the morning thinking you will visit a museum, then spend two hours walking around a neighbourhood instead. Perhaps you find a restaurant you like and decide to stay for dinner. Maybe it starts raining and your only plan becomes finding somewhere warm to sit.
Those things are not wasted time.
They are part of the experience.
Another useful idea is to stay somewhere with easy access to public transport. You do not need to stay right beside the Eiffel Tower. A convenient Metro connection can make getting around much easier.
Paris has plenty of famous attractions, but a romantic trip does not need to be built entirely around them.
The Eiffel Tower might be the photograph everyone sees. The memory you remember years later could be something much smaller.
It could be sharing a pastry on a quiet morning. Getting slightly lost while walking through Montmartre. Sitting beside the Seine after dinner. Finding a tiny restaurant by accident.
If you want to keep those memories in photographs, a Paris Photographer can be part of the experience too.
Plan the important things. Leave the rest open.
That balance usually makes a city trip feel much less tiring. More importantly, you get the chance to enjoy Paris together instead of spending the whole holiday trying to complete an itinerary.
