Mirabai Chanu, One of India's best athletes, lived up to the hype by winning the women's 49kg weightlifting final and earning India its first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 Birmingham.
Chanu broke the Commonwealth and CWG record in snatch in a stunning display.
Both the clean and jerk and total lift records were destroyed by her.
A far cry from her personal best, the former world champion finished with a total lift of 201 kg (88 kg + 113 kg).
In the snatch section, she lifted 88 kg, matching her previous record.
The much-anticipated 90kg attempt by the Olympic silver medalist, who has been focusing on her snatch technique, was unsuccessful.
Chanu, who holds the world record in the clean and jerk, lifted more than twice her own weight (109 kg, 113 kg) while wearing her renowned "lucky" earrings styled like the Olympic rings (119kg).
Marie Hanitra Roilya Ranaivosoa of Mauritius won silver in the 172 kg (76 kg + 96 kg) weight class.
Hannah Kaminski of Canada, weighing 171 kg (74 kg + 97 kg), placed third overall.
